MJ's Catch 23 is competing in Big Rock

Catch 23, an 80-foot Viking sportfishing yacht, is owned by Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan's sportfishing yacht, Catch 23, is one of the entrants in Morehead City's Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament this week.

The Big Rock tournament, which dates back to 1957, is one of America's largest, oldest sportfishing tournaments.

Jordan, a six-time NBA champion who grew up in Wilmington, purchased his 80-foot Viking Convertible yacht in early 2019.

How can you spot his boat?

The hull is wrapped with the iconic Air Jordan 3 elephant print to match his private plane -- and the Nike Air Jordan shoes treasured by lots of weekend athletes and sneaker collectors. The hull also includes a panther graphic in reference to The Black Cat, a nickname used by his close friends. (He's also known as MJ, Air Jordan, His Airness and, by most NBA fans, The GOAT.)

Will the billionaire basketball legend fish on the Catch 23 during the tournament?

We hope so. He has participated in a number of sportfishing tournaments, including the Jimmy Johnson Fishing Championship Tournament in Florida in March 2019, and The White Marlin Open in July 2019 in Ocean City, Md.

In addition to fishing, Jordan's Wikipedia page notes that he made the game-winning shot in the University of North Carolina's 1982 NCAA Championship win, was named the Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century by ESPN, played Minor League baseball, starred with Bugs Bunny in "Space Jam," and currently is majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets NBA team.
