DH Conley cross country boys win East Region Championship; Girls finish 3rd

The DH Conley Cross Country teams will compete for the 2018 NCHSAA State Championship next week after strong showings in the East Region 3A Championships.

Boys East Region 3A

The DH Conley Boys won the NCHSAA 3A East Region cross country championship held at Red Oak on Saturday and will compete for the state championship in Kernersville next Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings scored 56 points to beat out runner-up and host team Northern Nash, who scored 106.

Leading the way with All Region performances were Peyton Walters (4th, 16:52) and senior AJ Miller (7th, 16:57).

Also finishing in the top 20 were Seth McKinney (14th, 17:19), Owen Thorndike (16th, 17:21) and Jalen Wilson (19th, 17:27). Eli Orians (27th, 17:45) and Toby Bryson (37th, 18:18) also placed high in the field of 180 runners.

The Vikings performance was impressive as they beat the field of 27 teams, the largest field of all the regions in the state. JH Rose finished 19th.

Girls East Region 3A

The DH Conley girls used their depth to score a 3rd place finish in the 3A East Region Championships, and earn a trip to the NCHSAA state championships next Saturday in Kernersville.

Senior Emma Jane Cole led the Vikings with a 21st place finish in a time 21:02. Behind her was the tight pack of Viking runners Jennifer Perez (28th, 21:40), Annika Stoakes (31st, 21:43), Alice Guth (32nd, 21:44), Eve Curtis (34th, 21:50), Channing Mitchell (38th, 21:56) and Olivia Chiancone (40th, 22:10).

22 teams competed in the meet -- including JH Rose, who finished 13th -- and there were 160 individual finishers. The meet was hosted by Northern Nash High School at the Red Oak MS course.
