Field of Honor flag display opens May 26
A Field of Honor flag display, hosted by Greenville Noon Rotary Club, will be exhibited today through July 7 on the Greenville Town Common, 105 E. First St.
A public opening ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 26. Speakers will include Greenville Mayor P.J. Connelly and Greenville Police Chief Mark Holtzman.
The Town Common will be adorned with 500 3-foot by 5-foot American flags on 7-foot-tall poles, standing in a solemn formation to honor "Heroes in Our Lives."
The flag field is near the Tar River between the boat ramp and the amphitheater.
All American Flags will be illuminated during all hours of darkness thanks to Greenville Utilities.
Many of the flags have been purchased and dedicated and are marked with a commemorative tag with the individual's name. There will be opportunities to purchase and dedicate additional flags during the opening ceremonies.
Each flag location is mapped, making it easy to find your flag. After the closing ceremony on July 7, purchased flags may be picked up with proof of purchase.
