A World Cup Soccer Tournament will be held Saturday, Dec. 16 to raise funds for J.H. Rose High School Men's Soccer team member Daniel Oliver Perez and his family.
The tournament, hosted by the Taylor Family, will be held from 11 am.-1 p.m. on the Rose Soccer Fields, 600 W. Arlington Blvd.
Perez, 18, is a senior soccer player who earned All-Conference and 3-A Region III All-Region honors this season.
"Daniel's father, Samuel Oliver-Bruno, has been denied his annual work visa this year due to recent administration changes," Rose Soccer Coach Sam Lee said in an email. "Samuel had been approved for a work visa every year since 2014 ...
"Due to Daniel's mother having Lupus, Samuel is the primary breadwinner for the family. If Daniel's dad is deported, Daniel would have to drop out of high school to take on the financial burden of him and his mom.
"Daniel has earned the VISIONS Scholarship to attend Pitt Community College next year," Coach Lee said. "He plans on attending for two years and transferring to ECU for construction management. He has a very bright future ahead of him.
"The Taylors have asked to use the Rose facilities to host a World Cup Tournament to raise much-needed funds for Daniel and his family. The objective is to keep Daniel in high school and allow him to continue his dreams of construction management."
Fee to participate is $5 per person or $10 per two-person team. Interested players may register on site.
Admission is $1 for spectators.
Food and drinks will be available to purchase.
