ECU Homecoming festivities planned for Oct. 20-21

East Carolina University's Homecoming weekend celebration begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 with a Freeboot Friday pep rally at Five Points Plaza, the parking lot at the corner of Fifth and Evans streets in downtown Greenville.

The free outdoor event will include appearances by ECU mascot PeeDee the Pirate, the ECU Cheerleaders, ECU Dance team, Homecoming skit performers, the men’s and women’s basketball teams, and the ECU Marching Pirates.

Music will be performed by Greenville's high-energy party band Jupiter Jones.

Skylight Inn's food truck will sell food at the event. The legendary Ayden barbecue joint has been featured on The Travel Channel, Food Network and the History Channel and has earned accolades from National Geographic, Garden and Gun and Details magazines.

Kona Ice and Sup Dogs also will be serving food at the event. Adult beverages will be sold.

Freeboot Friday also will include free face painting, bounce houses, Purple the Clown, crafts for kids, and free rides in a Greenville Utilities' bucket truck. The event ends at 8 p.m.

Homecoming festivities will continue Saturday, Oct. 21 with a 9 a.m. parade with the theme "Pirates Around the World in 7 Days." The parade route is along Fifth Street, beginning at Hilltop Street ending at Reade Street.

The Homecoming football game, which pits ECU against BYU, will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The Homecoming Court will be introduced at half-time, and the 2017 King and Queen will be crowned.
