Greenville to host two weekend youth lacrosse tournaments

The fast-paced sport of lacrosse is growing in popularity in eastern North Carolina, and about 1,500 youth lacrosse players will be in Greenville May 20-21 to participate in two tournaments.

Participants are boys and girls ages 7-15.

Both events will be held at Greenville's North Recreational Compex at 3764 U.S. 264. The public may attend and there's no admission charge.

The East Carolina Youth Lacrosse League will hold its league championship tournament on Saturday, May 20. It's the sixth year the tournament has been held in Greenville. ECYLL is comprised of teams from Greenville, New Bern, Newport, Onslow County, Carteret County, Topsail and Havelock.

The ECYLL Shootout, benefiting the Tyler Fox Viscardi Fund, will be held Sunday, May 21. Teams from North Carolina and Virginia come to play in this tournament, which is being held for the third year in Greenville. ECYLL submits all-star teams made up of players from all of the league's teams.

The Tyler Fox Viscardi Fund was created in 2014 to honor the memory of Tyler and his love for the game of lacrosse. Tyler was a founding member of the Pitt County Youth Lacrosse League and also played at Arendell Parrott Academy. He passed away in August 2014 at the age of 20. The TFV Fund was set up to provide lacrosse equipment to children in need. Proceeds from the ECYLL Shootout will go to the TFV Fund to grow the game of lacrosse in eastern North Carolina.
