Local bicycle riders may participate in the 2017 Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 17, to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways.
The local event, a ride of approximately 10 miles hosted by nonprofit EC Velo, is just one of many Ride of Silence events planned around the globe.
Cyclists will gather at 6:30 p.m. at Reade Circle in downtown Greenville, and the ride begins at 7 p.m.
There will be police escorts and the front and back of the ride group.
The ride will take roughly an hour at 10-12 miles per hour. Helmets are required and participants should bring and use bike lights.
