Smash Waffles plans to open Greenville cafe in July

Smash Waffles, Geenville's popular Belgian waffle delivery service, plans to open a cafe in July on Dickinson Avenue in downtown Greenville. Owners and creators Justin Cox and Hunter Harrison have smashed and delivered more than 75,000 waffles since they opened in December 2016, according to an Uptown Greenville press release. Specialty waffles -- made with dough instead of batter and smashed in a cast iron waffle iron -- come in a variety of flavors and toppings. The menu includes The Chip Chip Hooray (waffle dough with milk chocolate chips topped with cookie butter, milk chocolate chips, chocolate drizzle and powdered sugar); The Swirly Sin (cinnamon swirl infused dough topped with brown sugar, cream cheese icing, cinnamon sugar and a dusting of powdered sugar); and a different specialty waffle each week. The new Smash Cafe will offer an expanded waffle menu and specialty coffee in a space with edgy, eclectic decor. With eight more locations planned in the next year and a half, Smash Waffles will use the Greenville cafe as a research and development facility. The Raleigh launch in February was met with such success that there was a waiting list of more than 500 customers.
