Moxie POP will offer space for pop-up events

A space in downtown Greenville has been converted into Moxie POP, a pop-up studio, gallery and event space for "art, wellness and dining." Owner Kelly Boutilier says it will open May 2. "We strive to offer our community a unique space for pop-up events at an affordable price," Kelly says on the Moxie POP website. The space, at 106 E. Fourth St., most recently was storage for 4th Street Tavern. "Prior to that it was a watch repair shop and originally it was the tailor shop for Bradshaw's Clothing next door," Kelly says. Now renovated, the space has white walls and a wood floor, making it easy to convert into a venue for any small group event including art shows, business meetings, trunk sales, birthday and graduation celebrations, wine tastings, hair shows, independent film showings, poetry readings, book releases and acoustic acts. Moxie POP has 330 square feet of wall and floor space for gallery exhibitions. The room seats up to 14 guests, with standing room for approximately 25 people. The space may be divided into six booth spaces for pop-up markets. And because it's located near the Boutilier family's Starlight Cafe on Fifth Street, the space will serve as a private dining lounge for the restaurant. Kelly's husband, Starlight Cafe executive chef Tobias Boutilier, can cater events held at Moxie POP for an additional fee and also offer private buffet dinners or Sunday brunches in the space. Kelly, an East Carolina University alum and registered yoga teacher, formerly owned downtown Greenville boutique Moxie Clothing -- so the name Moxie POP was a no-brainer. "I think a lot of people still remember and miss Moxie Clothing, so I wanted to keep the name,"she says. "And Moxie Yoga will be a regular featured POP at the studio, offering classes weekly along with pop-up workshops. "Plus, I really love the meaning behind the word: 'sass, courage, spunk.' I like to think I personally have a lot of those qualities and I want to incorporate that into my businesses." The styling at Moxie POP has a bohemian "Jungalow" vibe created by popular instagrammer, designer and Greenville native Carley Summers. For Moxie POP pricing and availability, email
