The Pitt Pirates robotics team is ranked No. 1 in the state after earning first place in the regional FIRST Robotics competition in Raleigh March 25-26. A second Pitt County team, Boneyard Robotics, also competed in the regional event. Both teams have qualified for the North Carolina state championships at Campbell University in Buies Creek April 1-2. The event will be broadcast on a live stream here.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is designed to inspire high school students to become engineers by giving them real world experience working with engineers to develop a robot.

There are 59 FIRST robotics teams in North Carolina.
