Trollingwood will host April 1 river cleanup
Greenville's Trollingwood Taproom & Brewery is kicking off N.C. Beer Month by hosting a floating cleanup of the Tar River from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 1. "Beer is over 90% water, so we have to take care of our resources," Trollingwood's Facebook page notes. BYOB -- Bring Your Own Boat -- or borrow one of the 30-plus loaners provided by Knee Deep Adventures, GO-Science, A Time for Science, ECU Adventures, River Park North and Pedals & Pistons. Reserve a kayak (single or tandem) here. Motor boaters also are invited to participate. Boats will leave the Town Common, 105 E. First St., between 10 and 11:30 a.m. to "float/paddle down the Tar and pick up stuff," according to Trollingwood's Facebook event post. Trash will be sorted and weighed at Port Terminal. Prizes will be awarded for the most trash collected, the largest item collected, and the weirdest item collected. There will be a free shuttle back to the Town Common for you and your boat. The last shuttle runs at 4 p.m. Following the cleanup, Trollingwood, 707 Dickinson Ave., will host an after party for participants beginning at 3 p.m., with free food from Villa Verde and music by Jessy Esterline. All participants will also receive one $5 Trollingwood gift certificate, and various swag from sponsors.
You don't have to be an expert kayaker to take part in the cleanup, according to Trollingwood. "Need practice paddling? River Park North will give a free practice session to anyone who is attending the cleanup," Trollingwood's post notes. "Just show up at their facility during normal hours and tell them you're going to do the cleanup. This of course is during their normal hours and weather permitting."
River Park North, at 1000 Mumford Road, is open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily until April 30. Call 252-329-4560.
