Fresh off an impressive showing at the NFL Combine, East Carolina University football luminary Zay Jones will be recognized before the Friday, March 17, Pirates baseball game.
Zay ended his college career with 399 receptions, the most ever for a football player at a major college. He also holds the NCAA record for most receptions in a season, with 158 catches in his senior season.
On Friday, Zay will be presented with an NCAA Statistical Champion Plaque before the Pirates baseball match-up with Mercer at 6:30 p.m. in Greenville's Clark-LeClair Stadium.
He also will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
ECU Baseball is ranked in the top 20 in all six major polls this week.
On Saturday, Zay will hold his first official autograph signing from noon-3 p.m. at college favorite Sup Dogs Restaurant, 213 E. Fifth St. downtown.
A charge of $20 per small item and $40 per large item will be charged for an autograph and inscription. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Greenville's nonprofit Aces for Autism Child Development Center.
The personable Pirate, the son of former ECU football great and Dallas Cowboys player Robert Jones, impressed National Football League scouts with his performance at the showcase for prospective players. Many experts expect Zay to be selected in the late-first to early-second round in late April's NFL Draft.
