Sleep under the stars at Tryon Palace April 1

Historic Tryon Palace in New Bern again is holding Lanterns on the Lawn, an overnight event that gives campers an opportunity to spend the night on the grounds of the former colonial governor's palace. The spring family camp-out event will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1 and end at 10 a.m. April 2. Campers may reserve a 15-foot square plot on the palace's South Lawn for a campsite and set up for the evening. Campers will be allowed to walk through the gardens and purchase items from the Garden Shop until dusk. Saturday evening activities include crafts, lawn games, a dinner buffet of hamburgers and hot dogs, making S'mores, a campfire sing-along and a 15-minute moonlit walk through the Wilderness Garden. Saturday morning activities will include a breakfast of coffee,juice, doughnuts and fruit; a sunrise garden walk; and a family yoga session. All camping equipment and other personal belongings must be removed by 10 a.m. Sunday, April 2. Cost is $50 for a campsite that will accommodate up to four people. The event is presented by Surf, Wine and Fire and benefits the Tryon Palace Foundation. The number of campsites are limited. Click here for more information or to register.
