March Madness, a one-act play

SETTING The bedroom of the home of Nathanael (Nate) Greene, a 20-something student in Greenville, North Carolina

TIME 7 a.m. on two consecutive days in March

Act I, Scene I Nate, dressed in pajamas, throws back the covers and hurriedly walks to his bedroom window. He opens the blinds and looks outside. A bird chirps.

NATE: What a gorgeous day! That's what I love about Greenville in March.

Nate turns to the right and walks over to his dresser. He opens a drawer and takes out a T-shirt and shorts.

NATE: I can't wait to get out there.

Nate picks up his cell phone and dials a number.

NATE: Hey, bro. You up yet?

Nate grabs his flip-flops as he listens to his friend's response.

NATE: Yeah, it's awesome weather. Let's go play some Frisbee golf ...

Act I, Scene II

(The next morning)

Nate, dressed in pajamas, throws back the covers and hurriedly walks to his bedroom window. He opens the blinds and looks outside. A bird chirps.

NATE: What a gorgeous day! That's what I love about Greenville in March.

Nate turns to the right and walks over to his dresser. He opens a drawer and takes out long johns, a turtleneck sweater, corduory pants and thermal socks.

NATE: I can't wait to get out there.

Nate picks up his cell phone and dials a number.

NATE: Hey, bro. You up yet?

Nate grabs his snow boots as he listens to his friend's response.

NATE: Yeah, it's awesome weather. Let's go snowboarding at the 264 overpass ...
