Fish stews are an eastern North Carolina tradition, and so is friendly competition among home cooks for bragging rights. Add a mug of locally brewed beer and an opportunity to honor our veterans and you've got the Stew & Brew.
The third annual event will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Mother Earth Brewery, 311 N. Herritage St., Kinston.
Teams from across the state will prepare their own secret recipes for eastern North Carolina Fish Stew.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Kinston's nonprofit G.I. Joe's Military Living History Museum that preserves the legacy of all military veterans.
You'll be able to buy a bowl for unlimited fish stew tastings from all the cook teams for $10. The price includes your first beer in the Mother Earth Brewing Tap Room and a chance to cast your vote for your favorite fish stew.
Mother Earth Brewing will release its new seasonal offering, Mother Earth Berlinerweisse, during the Brew & Stew. Berlinerweisse is a classic German-style wheat beer with a bright tart and refreshing taste. It will be available on tap and in 12-ounce can six packs to take home.
Cook teams interested in participating in the competition may enter for a $50 fee. In addition to a champion's trophy, cash prizes will be given out for first-, second- and third-place winners. Contact Eric Cantu at 252-560-8031 or at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to enter.
