Program aims to assist novice runners
A "Couch to 5K" training program for aspiring long distance runners will be held from Feb. 7-April 9 at H. Boyd Lee Park. The program, sponsored by Greenville Recreation and Parks Department, will focus on safely building strength and endurance to run or walk in a 5K (3.1 mile) race. Sessions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The group format provides guidance, camaraderie and encouragement, both from the experienced runners coaching the program and from the other participants who also have made the life-changing decision to get up and get moving. The program "graduation" will be participating in the Hornet Hustle on April 9 (race entry is included in the program fee). Cost is $25 for Greenville residents and $38 for others. Registration is limited. Call 252-329-4550 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
