Swim-a-thon benefits Children's Hospital
Young swimmers held a Fins Up for Finley swim-a-thon benefit this summer in memory of the infant sister of one of their teammates.
Swim4Life raised more than $11,500, which was donated to the James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant in Greenville.
The fundraiser is an annual event for the Greenville Area Summer Swim League.
This year's proceeds were donated in memory of 1-year-old Finley Elizabeth Anderson, daughter of Al and Melissa Anderson of Winterville and sister of Jackson Anderson, a member of the Ayden Grifton County Club Wahoos swim club.
Finley was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy when she was 4 months old. She died on Nov. 26, 2015.
The 10 youth swimming clubs in the GASSL participated in the swim-a-thon, which was held in July at Ayden Golf & Country Club.
Swimmers collected pledges for the number of laps they swam during the event. T-shirt were sold with a Fins Up for Finley logo and the logos of the 10 GASSL teams.
