In the spring, lunch just begs to be eaten outside. Sure, you could pack a sandwich and head over to the Town Common for a picnic.Or you can dine at a Greenville restaurant with a patio. This week's Lunch on the Patio choice is Cafe Duo.
The patio at Cafe Duo is a quiet oasis in the middle of the busy Red Banks Road business district.
There is seating for about a dozen people at black wrought iron tables in the breezeway and on a brick patio. A couple of the tables are topped by red umbrellas. Diners are hidden from the street and parking lot by a brick wall topped with boxwood shrubs in planters.
With the soundtrack of crooners and the bistro lunch fare, diners can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a European cafe in the middle of Greenville.
The restaurant and bar is owned and operated by two chefs, Executive Chef Chris Shireman and his wife Mayra. The couple met in cuinary school at Johnson & Wales University in Miami and opened Cafe Duo 10 years ago.
The fare is described on their website as "creative American cuisine with some classic rustic European influences." They use fresh, local ingredients and change the menu seasonally.
